Moringa

Moringa

Moringa oleifera

Origin South Asia

Edibility Moringa is not a fruiting tree but it does produce a seed pod that is valued as food when young and green. The leaves are touted as “superfood”, with very high levels of nutrients as well as multiple health benefits. The flavor is definitely a little on the harsh side (think arugula but way spicier).

Characteristics Moringa is a very fast growing tree of about 40 feet. It can be propagated directly from cuttings, and will tolerate draught and our summer heat very well. It can be aggressively trimmed to promote new growth and to keep it at a harvestable size.
