Origin Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula.
Edibility Trees fruit primarily in the summer but may have fruit all year long. Sapodilla fruit is round to oblong shaped, 2-4 inches in diameter. Flesh is sweet with a pear / brown sugar /caramel taste.
Characteristics Large tree that can reach 100 feet. Should be trimmed to keep it shorter. Tree and fruit produce sap called chicle that was once used in chewing gum. No known diseases and very few pests in Florida.
