Edibility Taro is one of our oldest agricultural crops. Evidence of taro consumption can be found in archaeological sites dating 28,000 years ago. Taro tubers or “corms” are eaten boiled or fried and have a sweet nutty flavor. Taro leaves are also boiled and eaten.

Characteristics Taro is a tropical perennial root root vegetable from the group of plants we call “elephant ears”. Taro loves wet and even swampy soil with lots of nutrients. Taro is propagated from pieces of the corm or from suckers off the main plant.
